'This collection of case studies is the first systematic effort to unpack the political economy of reform in the Pacific. It is timely, wide-ranging, and rich in insight.'

- Professor Stephen Howes, Director, Development Policy Centre and Director, International and Development Economics Program, Crawford School of Economics and Government, Australian National University

Examining the political economy of the Pacific island countries within different disciplinary frameworks, this report discusses success factors behind economic reform and investigates how politics, economics, and culture can interact to discourage change, lead to poor governance and growth, and encourage corruption. It also presents ways in which the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and other development partners can use this knowledge to provide more effective assistance to its Pacific developing member countries.
