An introduction to between 50 and 100 poems by poets ranging from Shakespeare to Anne Carson. Students will also be introduced to some of the best critical readings on individual poems, and selected essays by leading poetry critics. The course will teach skills in both critical and creative writing. 100% internal assessment. In 2016 this course is able to be used towards the 100-level major subject requirements for the ENGL major and as a prerequisite for the 200-level ENGL courses.
